Connections

The map of who and what your clients mention: workplaces, partners, children, events and interests, drawn from your notes and filtered by what you may read.

What the map shows

When a note mentions a workplace, a place, a person, an event or an interest, Rapport adds it to the map and links it to the client. Open Connections under Run the day, choose a client to centre on, or look at the whole salon.

  • Clients are dark; mentioned people who are not clients are dashed; events and interests are amber.
  • A dashed line is a link Rapport is not sure about. “Check this link” on the right asks you yes or no.
  • A faded event is one whose date has passed. The brief says “ask how it was” for two weeks after, then drops it; the map keeps it.
  • Choose anything to see which notes it came from and who can see them.

The List view shows the same information as two tables, for keyboards, screen readers and phones.

Who sees what

A link is visible to exactly the people who can read the note it came from. Links from an Only me note are on your map and the owner’s, nobody else’s. Because of that, the same workplace can appear twice when two people wrote about it in private; the owner sees both and can merge them.

When a connection joins more than one client, the brief shows it as “Good to know” with the note “From another client’s note, don’t repeat”. It is context for you, not something to pass on.

Mentioned people who are not clients

For a client’s partner, child or friend, Rapport keeps a first name and the relationship only, never contact details. They are left out of other clients’ data exports, and shown as “[another person]” in the client’s own.

Tidying the map

  • Remove a single link from the panel on the right (owner or admin).
  • Merge two connections that are the same thing, or remove one from the map altogether (owner only, because only the owner sees every link behind it).
  • Every merge and removal is in Recent changes and can be undone for 30 days.
